WEST PALM BEACH, FL. – On Friday, July 9th, Community Partners of South Florida (CPSFL), the Southeast Florida Behavioral Health Network (SEFBHN) and the City of West Palm Beach celebrated the opening of their collaborative housing complex with a ribbon cutting celebration. Attended by Mayor Keith James, along with local leaders from across the community, the first of its kind collaborative project will provide independent, affordable housing and wrap-around supportive services for 36 individuals with behavioral health issues who may be at risk for homelessness.
“This is a priority for the City of West Palm Beach,” shared Mayor James. “Collaboration, and helping our most vulnerable residents, is what will make our community a better place for all. Here, clients will gain the abilities needed to maintain long-term housing, increase self-sufficiency, and grow in their recovery.
The newly renovated community, named The Village, features 20 units, a combination of one and two bedrooms for individuals as well as families, and serves as a pilot for the alliance. Funding is provided by SEFBHN and the City of West Palm Beach with supportive services managed by CPSFL, including a multi-disciplinary team consisting of case management, therapy, and community services to help the residents achieve self-sustainability.
“As a comprehensive community development nonprofit agency, CPSFL focuses on housing, wellness, and connection to community simultaneously to create healthy families and healthy communities,” shared Scott Hansel, CPSFL CEO. “The Village will be a place for creating deep connections with residents who are seeking to work through their mental health and situational challenges to improve their quality of life. The relationships between our team members and our clients will increase personal development and skill-building, leading to strong support systems. I am very much looking forward to seeing the positive effects this has on clients as they journey on their path forward.”
Added SEFBHN CEO Ann Berner, “After the closure of the Jerome Golden Center for Behavioral Health in 2019, there was a void in our community. I am proud to see the City and our partner organizations come together to fill the void in housing for people with behavioral health challenges, particularly those who are at risk of homelessness or transitioning from a hospital environment to community.”
The second phase of the project is estimated for fall 2021 and will include the renovation of an adjacent building to become a multi-purpose center to house additional services, including a peer support program managed by Mental Health America of Palm Beach County. The buildings are owned by Grupo Inverso Miami LLC and their COO Martin Acosta.
The Village is located at 1004 13th Street, West Palm Beach, FL. For additional information, please call (561) 841.3500
