EDUCATION FOUNDATION HOSTED 10TH ANNUAL HEROES FOR EDUCATION 5K RUN/WALK
Event Raised Over $120,000 to Support Education Programs in Palm Beach County
(Lake Worth, FL) – The Education Foundation of Palm Beach County hosted its 10th Annual Heroes for Education 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, October 6 at John Prince Park in Lake Worth. More than 1,600 Palm Beach County students, families and ‘Education Heroes’ helped raise over $120,000 to support the Foundation's programs, grants and initiatives that make a lasting impact on the School District of Palm Beach County.
The Education Foundation awarded $14,000 in prize money to 28 schools through grants given to race winners. More than half of Palm Beach County schools participated, with students from 14 high schools, 22 middle schools and 59 elementary schools attending.
“We were thrilled to unite our community to celebrate education and promote health and wellness,” said James Gavrilos, Education Foundation CEO. “This event was the perfect chance to get active while supporting our mission. We raced toward a brighter future for education and had a fantastic day!”
The morning included activities for all ages, such as the Kids One Mile Fun Run, the Kids 100 Yard Dash, family-friendly entertainment, refreshments and opportunities to connect with community partners. Sponsors included Boca West Children’s Foundation, UnitedHealthcare, Optum, Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Tanger, Gold Coast Federal Credit Union, Coca-Cola Beverage Florida, PNC Bank, NCCI, CORE Construction, Proctor Construction, B&I Construction and Precedeo.
Awards were presented in several categories. The Heroes Awards for the largest overall participating team was awarded to Panther Run Elementary School. The largest elementary team was Binks Forest Elementary, middle school was Polo Park Elementary and the largest high school team was Forest Hill High School. The fastest teams in the elementary, middle and high school categories were also recognized, along with age group winners ranging from ages 9 to 70+ and overall champions. Due to inclement weather, the School Mascot Dash was canceled and every mascot who registered was awarded funds for their school.

The Foundation awards grants, supports innovative programs and scholarships, and provides necessary school supplies and resources from Red Apple Supplies, the Foundation’s signature program.
