DOWNTOWN PALM BEACH GARDENS’ BELOVED CAROUSEL TO GET NEW WATERFRONT LOCATION
Children’s carousel will be “new and improved” when it debuts in 2021 at Downtown’s waterfront
(Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.) – The waterfront at Downtown Palm Beach Gardens is set to have a brand-new look. The beloved children’s carousel, currently located at the south end of the lifestyle center, will be disassembled tomorrow to be refurbished with a “new and improved” look when it is debuted by the lakefront, on the east side of the plaza, later in 2021.
“Many people don’t realize that there are only a few hundred carousels still operating in the United States,” said Erin Devlin, Shopping Center Marketing Manager for ShopCore Properties, owners and managing entity for Downtown Palm Beach Gardens. “This carousel has been a main attraction at Downtown Palm Beach Gardens for almost 10 years and is loved by so many in the community. As we continue our goal to re-envision the center, we look forward to bringing the carousel back – better than ever, with several improvements for better family enjoyment and added safety measures.”
The carousel, which was originally installed in November 2010, is a one-of-a-kind design that was custom created for Downtown to reflect the tropical atmosphere of South Florida. The menagerie of animals contains 27 unique pieces that include Florida wildlife such as alligators, manatees, pelicans and dolphins as well as the typical carousel horses.
“So many families here in Palm Beach Gardens have grown up making a night of dinner and movies or a ride on the carousel," continued Devlin. "It is ranked #2 on TripAdvisor's not-to-miss things to do in this area. In addition to providing family fun, this one-of-a-kind art piece is a showstopper. The lakefront setting will provide the perfect backdrop for even more family memories!"
The renovation of the carousel is part of Downtown’s transformation of its common areas that will also include new murals, landscaping, sculptural seating and swings. According to ShopCore’s Nina Rogers, Vice President of Specialty Leasing, different areas throughout the center will be designed to evoke a getaway or vacation setting with names such as the “Recharge Lounge,” or “Palm Swing Court.” New awnings, colorful tiles, decorative panels, updated paint colors, new Bahama shutters and French doors, spectacular lighting, tropical landscaping, botanical sculptures and fun new furnishings will come together to offer a breath of fresh air to Downtown’s outdoor location.
